Tap
Tap dancers make frequent use of syncopation. Choreographies
typically start on the eighth or first beatcount. Another
aspect of tap dancing is improvisation. This can either be
done with music and follow the beats provided or without musical
accompaniment, otherwise known as acapella dancing. Sounds
are made using shows with metal on the heel and toe of the
foot.
Jazz
Center control is very important in jazz technique.
Your center will help you keep your balance and execute jazz
steps easier. Most jazz classes start with a warm-up and stretching
to get your muscles ready to move. Some techniques used in
the warm up are isolations and contractions. During classes
teachers usually teach combinations and then a routine to
practice these techniques. Some basic moves include: ball
change, twist, battement, pivot step, touch step, Piqué
passé, stag leap, jete`, pencil spin, barrel turn,
fan kick, jazz walk, jazz run, jazz square, hip walk, chasses,
cat walk, catch step, pas de bouree, split jumps, renversé,
chainé, switch leap, calypso, and pirouettes.
Modern
Modern dance or free movement dance is now classified
as contemporary dance, a genre that encompasses the work of
Rudolf Laban, Merce Cunningham, Martha Graham. Whilst those
studying contemporary dance learn a technical subject as for
anything else, the choreography seen in performance is very
diverse and generally can not be recognized as any specific
dance style, although other dance styles can often influence
much of the movement.
Hip Hop
Hip Hop dance refers to dance styles, mainly street
dance styles, primarily danced to hip hop music, or that have
evolved as a part of the hip hop culture. These later styles
are sometimes referred to as new school or new style while
the older styles, including break dance and various funk styles
that were incorporated into hip hop, are considered old school.
Hip hop dancing is evolving in many different directions today,
heavily influenced by the evolution of hip hop music and its
popularity in media, surrounded by heated debates on history
and authenticity.
Acrobatics
Acrobatics involves difficult feats of balance, agility
and coordination. Nearly any performance or sport which involves
full-body activity—especially in short, highly controlled
bursts of activity—can be considered acrobatics. Typical
examples are, first and foremost, all the subdivisions of
gymnastics and trapeze work, but specialized activities like
ballet and diving could also be included. In a narrow sense,
the term "acrobatics" refers to "acrobatic
gymnastics," a specialized subdivision of gymnastics.
Adult
We also offer several different dance classes for
parents, or other adults. From tap, to ballroom, to the "world
famous Dancin' Dads", we have something for everyone.
